THE KING OF THE NORTH STAR:Unraveling The Mysteries Behind the Emperor’s Tomb* For a long time now, the elders of the town have been telling me an enchanting story – a tale that has been passed on from generations to generations. What I’m about to tell you may alter your perception of reality. It was an age of absolute chaos. The blessings of the gods were still nonexistent within these lands. With no unifying force in sight, the vast realms lay under the rule of a powerful and malevolent horde. However, this uneasy peace was shattered by a new threat emanating from a much sinister force. This war of attrition dragged on for well over a thousand years. The blood of the innocent and the helpless was spilled across a barren and desolate wasteland. From the aftermath of the devastation, arose a mysterious man - his name and origin an enigma to all. More speculation followed when he revealed that he was ordered by a higher being to “leave town and travel west”. That higher being was no other than the god Vishnu. He claimed that he was anointed by Vishnu to be the vanguard of humanity. He was the North Star - the ray of light illuminating a world being devoured by darkness. Vishnu’s blessing served him well as he was able to defeat all his enemies. The people offered their undying gratitude by making him the overlord of the lands he liberated. They bestowed on him the title “King of the North Star”. But the prevailing calm would be threatened by a shocking realization. The king suddenly felt a mystical force escaping from him. It seemed as if a higher power had abandoned him. The blessing of Vishnu was no more. Helpless but undaunted, he carried on with his quest to rid the world of evil. He went on to win more great victories. Sadly, his triumphs would be cut short by a wayward arrow that struck him in the chest. Weak and powerless, the hero entrusted his fate to the gods. Before his untimely demise, the king was blessed with twin daughters. Like their father, they grew up to become fearless warriors and charismatic leaders. The king was immensely proud that his daughters would someday inherit his throne. Unfortunately, he would not live to see that glorious day. Their father’s death was a devastating blow to the twins. Yet, their mourning was cut short by a greater sense of duty. They still had numerous lands to liberate. During one fateful skirmish, one of the twins decided to wear their father’s armor. Surprisingly, the armor remained impervious to damage. It was as if the blessing of the gods never disappeared. They then went on to win more decisive battles. After years of war, peace soon reigned all over the world. After the restoration of order and balance, the twins were hailed as the new “Kings of the North Star”. They were also called “the sleepless monarchs” for their untiring devotion to their constituents. However, the supreme authority they wielded would eventually corrupt them. Unlike their wise and merciful father, they completely lost all sense of reason and justice. They become the “lords of conquest and destruction” The quest for absolute power turned into a terrifying obsession. While sowing death and destruction, the twins would soon discover the reason behind their father’s death. They learned that it was Shiva’s treachery that ignited the cataclysm resulting to the breaking of the balance. The heavenly protection safeguarding their father disappeared, making him vulnerable to all types of earthly weapons. Revenge became foremost on their minds and they soon devised a plan to achieve their objective. Unfortunately, they proved to be unworthy adversaries to Shiva. They were like rag dolls torn to shreds. During their dying moments, a voice suddenly called out to them. Cali proposed an otherworldly deal, a promise of eternal life in exchange for their souls. Immortality was theirs, but they would have to spend it an underground tomb in order to escape the wrath of the gods. There, they would have dominion over the undead – slain warriors who once fought for them. Lurking in the bowels of the earth, they await the call of Cali… (*taken from the translation, “The script of Shunongs who is a farmer at Exile”)
